The Avant-Garde 2000 chair deserves a special place in Canadian design history as the country’s first monobloc chair made entirely of injection-moulded plastic. Designed in 1971 by the Italo-Québécois designer Giovanni Maur for the now-defunct manufacturer Treco, its sculptural and playful silhouette reflects the influence of some of Italy’s most iconic plastic seating designs of the 1960s — most notably Joe Colombo’s Universale and Carlo Bartoli’s 4875.
A little insider detail: Maur conceived the chair shortly after visiting the Milan Furniture Fair in 1970, which explains the strong visual dialogue with contemporary Italian design of the era.
In good vintage condition with minimal wear consistent with age and use.
