ÅLAND chair by Niels Gammelgaard for IKEA

Making its first appearance in the pages of the 1978 IKEA catalog, the ÅLAND chair is one of the many great designs by the danish designer Niels Gammelgaard for the Swedish brand. A close cousin of the RAPPEN chair (also nicknamed the “TED net”), the ÅLAND uses the same design language and manufacturing processes but distinguishes itself by its slightly more pronounced curves of the seating and backrest. These chairs were professionally refinished in a glossy yellow powder coat with a slight texture to better whitstand wear and corrosion.
